7 Ways To Spread The Love Without Leaving Your Bed on Valentine’s Day

Feb 12, 2016 | by Sandy Reitman

We all know the drill on Valentine’s Day — red roses, chocolates and dinner reservations.  If you’re lucky, you’ll be spending this Valentine’s Day with someone you love while also feeling loved.  Maybe you have plans to go out or maybe you’re thinking about staying in — either way, you’ll be hitting the hay at some point throughout the day.  (Nice rhyme, huh?)

We know it’s easy to feel a lot of #feels around Valentine’s Day.  So, whether you’re with someone or alone, we wanted to give you some options on how to spread the love without ever leaving your bed.

Maybe you want to treat yourself or maybe you want to show someone else that you care.  Any which way you look at it, Valentine’s Day is a perfect excuse to do something nice for yourself and those around you.

Here are a few ways to do just that:

1. Sleep in.

Sweet! Valentine’s Day is on the Sunday of a holiday weekend this year, which means it’s a perfect excuse to sleep in.  Everyone is better when well rested, so those other people in your life will appreciate you getting some R&R.  Stay warm and under the covers with your beau, book or binge watching TV show and enjoy the day off.

2. Book a trip.

Got the travel itch? No time like the present to scratch it and book that trip you’ve been meaning to take.  Got friends in other places?  What better way to show them you care than planning a visit sometime in the spring or summer?  Plus, there’s bound to be sales on hotels and airfare filling your inbox on Valentine’s Day.

3. Donate something.

Give back! It’s a win-win situation where you feel good while doing something good.  Donate online to your favorite shelter, charity, politician, or organization and sleep better at night knowing you made the world a little bit better today.

4. Call your family.

Who says Valentine’s Day has to only be about romance? It’s about love!  And, who do you love more than your own family?  Valentine’s Day has likely worn off its authenticity to your parents, so it’s a sweet little surprise to call them up wishing them a good day, too.

5. Shop the online sales.

Do you love to shop? Marketers know when you’re most likely to go shopping, and Valentine’s Day is one of the biggest online sale shopping days of the year.  Take the bait and buy yourself something nice.  Work hard.  Play hard.  Shop hard.

6. Watch a movie.

Make a date with Brad. These days, you don’t even need to go to the theatre to see the latest from Hollywood.  Stay in bed and watch that movie you’ve been meaning to go see, but just haven’t found the time.  If you’re not alone, you’ll even save on prices of tickets.  Plus, you can order whatever you want to enjoy while watching, instead of settling for popcorn and soda.  Oscar season is upon us and you’ll want to be sure to know the nominees.

7. Tip extra.

Leave the change. Deciding to stay in this Valentine’s Day to avoid making impossible dinner reservations while also avoiding the crowd?  Order in!  Choose your favorite restaurant that delivers (or find one of those awesome third party delivery services that will bring anything to your door) and enjoy a romantic dinner in bed.  Tip the delivery man extra since you know running around delivering food on February 14 isn’t the best way to spend the day.
