In Bed With Sara Zucker
Meet Sara Zucker. An OG Tumblr, Sara loves to blog about beauty, fashion, lifestyle, and whatever strikes her fancy. In addition to her curating passion, holds a job at Origins. We decided to drop by and ask her a few questions about all of our favorite hobbies.
Do you have a consistent bedtime routine? If so, walk us through it.
Normal stuff, I’d say—wash my face and brush my teeth, set an alarm, dab on some eye cream, make sure my social media reputation hasn’t gone up in flames, pass out. I also consistently wake up between 3 and 4am, get up, splash a little cold water on my face, and then fall back to sleep. Some people refer to a “Witching Hour” and that one is mine because I have no idea why it has become a habit.
When is your bedtime?
Whenever I can actually fall asleep. Such is the life of a perpetually anxious person.
What’s the one thing you can’t sleep without?
Comfortable pillows—four, to be exact. They can’t be too soft, can’t be too hard; like the Goldilocks of pillows (I love Better Than Down). During wintertime, I always leave a humidifier running to keep air moist since my pre-war building’s heating system can create a desert-like environment. If I’m feeling sassy, I’ll add in a little lavender essential oil.
What do you do if you can’t sleep?
I’ll conduct a ‘counting sheep’ technique where I literally count numbers up in my head until I get so distracted that I black out and suddenly it’s morning.
What’s the weirdest thing you do in bed? Everything except my makeup. Sincerely, when I am home I spend 92% of it in bed. Eating meals, talking on the phone, reading—hell, I even host book club in bed on occasion. It’s what you have to do when you live in a 300-something-square-foot apartment.
Left, right, or middle of the bed?
I alternate between left and right because I am perpetually afraid of creating a “body nook.” You know, that imprint you create when you sleep in one place too often? Big fear.
Where do you keep your phone while you sleep?
With my job, I’m always on, so it’s never far away but most often charging on my night table.
How many alarms do you set before going to bed?
Just one. If I’m hungover, two, but I feel guilty about it.
What’s the first thing you do when you wake up?
I never thought I’d become a Today Show watcher because the hosts are cheesy and I usually consume news and pop culture through the internet but I turn on Channel 4 as soon as I wake up for background noise as I get ready for the day.
What’s your ideal sleep setting?
Cold, dark, and silent. Similar to my love life.
Your an OG tumblr user, do you ever “tumble” in bed?
A good girl never tumbls and tells 😉
